Burwood Linux Repair Cafe: Save Your Old Computer
Do you have an older computer? In October 2025, Microsoft ended support for all Windows 10 devices, leaving a huge amount of computers vulnerable to security risks. The research firm Canalys has calculated that this has effectively turned 240 million devices worldwide (one-fifth of all Windows computers!) into e-waste. If you have a computer from before 2017, you are affected.
But don’t throw out your pre-2017 computer just yet! Burwood Neighbourhood House is now part of the global Linux Repair Cafe initiative that is helping people around the world upgrade older devices to Linux, a free alternative operating system that solves these issues.
Every first and third Tuesday of the month from 12:30 to 2:00, our expert volunteers will be available to upgrade your old computer to Linux free of charge. This means that you can still browse the internet, send emails, and do everything else a regular computer can on your old computer.
And if you just have questions about the transfer process or would like to see Linux computers in action, just come along.
Click below to join a session, or feel free to contact us at 9808-6292 or contact@burwoodnh.org.au for more information.
Our team of tech help volunteers are also available to help with your general non-Linux device issues, including iOS/Android mobile phones and Windows/Mac computers.
